Thank you TJHB team for sharing the love for Sydney WorldPride. We are grateful
that you welcomed thousands of visitors to our iconic region for 17 days of special
events to promote and advocate for LGBTQIA+ human rights.
The festival brought an estimated 500,000 people to Sydney to attend more than
300 events from concerts, parties and parades to arts, sport and a human rights
conference. Many of the visitors were lucky to ride in our rainbow themed wrapped
buses, decorated inside and out.
Thank you to many of our staff who undertook additional shifts and performed
overtime to transport participants and spectators to the key events, including the
most famous of Sydney WorldPride – the 45th anniversary of the Mardi Gras parade.
The first Sydney Mardi Gras in 1978 was the catalyst for legal reform and improved
rights for LGBTQIA+ people in NSW. More than 12,500 marchers and 200-plus floats
returned to Oxford Street for this year’s event, for the first time since 2020.
TJHB ran an additional 23 shifts as part of 197 trips and 71 overtime shifts to move
approximately 90,000 people to and from the iconic event.
To transport more than 15,000 people to attend one of the largest WorldPride
events – the Bondi Beach Party (see images below) – our network grew by 25 artic
standby shifts and was serviced by bus operators and operational staff performing
75 overtime shifts.

to showcase Sydney to a global audience, which injected $112M into the economy.
As journey makers you played an important role to welcome LGBTQIA+ people from
across our country and the globe, to ride with pride.”
Thank you also to the Network Planning and Traffic and Events teams, to everyone
who assisted with the wrapping and decorating of the Pride buses, and to those
who promoted and hosted internal WorldPride events.
