Transdev Australasia’s Chief People and Culture Officer, Paul Birch, said the organisation had recently signed the Australian Government’s Veteran’s Employment Commitment.
“Ex-service personnel bring a wealth of skill and experience to the workforce, and our goal is to support them in their transition to the mobility sector,” Mr Birch said.
“There are strong parallels between the two sectors with both industries involving logistics, communications, operations of heavy vehicles, and above all a sense of serving the community.”
Transdev has a large number of veterans working throughout its Australian and New Zealand business, and the recent commitment is particularly poignant for ex-Royal Navy serviceman, Kevin Hollingshead, who now works with Transdev in Brisbane.
“When you are ex-forces, you only know one way of doing things and that’s military. So when you go from being military to a civilian, it is very hard to adjust to civilian life,” Mr Hollingshead said.
“Support services, whether they be delivered through workplace or government initiatives, that help to transition away from a life in uniform are crucial in helping veterans to feel part of their community once more.”

Transdev has committed to the Australian Government initiative as part of its commemoration and observance of ANZAC Day.
“ANZAC Day is very special not just for Australians and New Zealanders, it is a significant day for all who have served their country as it reflects the sacrifice of the many men and women who have come before us,” Mr Hollingshead said.
